Back on track

Finally, I have had enought time to focus on the Westfield...A long winter has really made it difficult to work in an unheated garage when temps get below 20 degress...

Just to catch you up on my progress...I have finally completed the brake lines throughout the car. I have also plumbed the car for fuel lines. So far, no leaks...

I have also finally recieved all the necessary motor parts from across the pond. If everything goes well, I should have a motor and tranmissiom in the car by next week. I will leave the painting of the body until the very end.

I am not looking forward to doing the electrical wiring next.....

And last but not least, I have got the car once again to stand on all fours !!!!! And it rolls with the puch of one hand...

Greetings faithful fans. For those of you following my exploits, you may have noticed that I have not updated my site for a couple of weeks, this is due to the recent passing of my mother-in-law. She will be sorely missed.

As for my current update, I have finished coating the chassis with POR-15. This antirust product is stronger than advertised. Very hard shell with an attractive glossy finish.

I have also replaced all the metal interior sheet with 18 gauge 4052 grade alluminum. This has given the car a "better than new" appearence. Replacing the interior has also given me the opportunity to re-seal all the possible fluid entry points with Sikaflex 205 caulking. This is a product most found in the marine industry and works wonders for adhesion and resistence to outdoor elements.

As you can see from my current picture, I have done a mock-up of the front suspension to confirm all the proper pivot points. As soon as my steering rack arrives from Cat Motorsport in the UK, I will have a complete front.

I still have some work to do with regard to rust removal on the real axle and other minor pieces. This should all be done later this week.

I have alos started looking at paint for the fiberglass body parts. You may noticed in the picture of the scuttle on the table (left in picture).

With the arrival of the wiring harness, I am only awaiting a new oil pump for the motor to have all the parts necessary to compete the car. I have learned that shipping from the UK to the US can be very time consuming and very expensive.

Surgery a Success !!!!

I know that a lot of people have been waiting like expectant parents on the outcome of the replacement of the front chassis for the Westfield SE chassis. I am happy to report that after 5 hours of effort, the mission was a success. I now have a chassis that, I think, is stronger and better than new.
I am confident that the chassis pickup points and pivot points are all correct within 1/64 of an inch !!!

We will now start to get the chassis ready for painting and are hopeful that we will have something that we can start building next week....

For those of you following the exploits of my resurection of a Westfield SE, I have some promising information. I have, after 20 hours of labor, completed stripping the chassis entirely of paint and primer. I have decided not to stip the front as it will be amputated during chassis surgery later this week.
Looking forward, I have decided to use POR-15 to cover the chassis as opposed to having it Powder Coated. This decision was based upon my previous experience with Powder Coating and my lack of experience with POR-15 (heck if you can't learn something new?)
Now that we have prepped the car for surgery (notified next of kin, etc.), check back later this week to see how our patient is doing. Depending on the extent of the chassis damage, I hope that I won't be faced with a DNR (Do Not Resesitate).
